Long awaited relief from the traffic congestion faced by daily travelers between Chandigarh and Panchkula
A new road plan between Chandigarh and Panchkula is taking shape. The road will connect Purv Marg to the Hallomajra road, which connects Hallomajra T-Point to the Industrial Area in Panchkula.
According to a UT official, the road will be an extension of the Industrial Area, Phase-I road starting from the T-Junction, near the Centra Mall, on the traffic light point on Purva Marg.
But there are many hurdles in the way of this much-awaited project, a major portion of the proposed road will pass through the Daria Forest area, and it will require green clearances. Then there's the issue of widening the entry to Panchkula, where the six Hallomajra Roads culminate. Officials of Haryana have agreed to widen the entry point with HSVP proposing an exchange of land with the current holders and their relocation with undergoing negotiations. Illegal colonies will further slow down the progress of this project.
UT administration is taking steps to tackle the issue of illegal colonies, as a part of which In May last year, the administration demolished Colony Number 4, clearing 65 acres of land from numerous shanties, the reclaimed area was later handed over to the Forest department.
Panchkula now is connected via four main routes, the oldest being Madhya Marg, but due to the rising issue of traffic, Hallomajra road is mostly used these days by commuters. Immediate completion of this project is the need of the hour and the administration should fast-forward their efforts for the welfare of the civilians of the city.
