The municipal council (MC) in Panchkula has decided to adopt violent dogs in the city. The objective behind the rehabilitation is to reduce their hostility after being alarmed by more than 5,000 dog bite incidents in the previous six months. This choice was made at the Thursday meeting of the Dog Monitoring and Sterilisation Committee, which was presided over by Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal. It was agreed that MC would train and adopt aggressive canines.
Notably, there were 5,655 dog bite instances registered in Panchkula throughout 2022 as opposed to 6,016 in 2021 and 5,692 in 2020. Being a very aggressive breed, Rodweiler and Pitbull are already banned in Panchkula.
Goyal stated, "Stray canines from every ward would be trained and kept in the dog pound for 15 days. These dogs can also be adopted, or their food can be donated by citizens and NGOs. They may work at the pound as volunteers.
It was mentioned during the meeting that the emergency department of the Civic Hospital in Sector 6 saw an average of five dog bite cases per day. In 2017, 3,179 stray dogs were sterilised, and 515 have been done so far this year. Additionally, it was resolved during the meeting that the council members of each ward would be informed of the number of stray dogs collected in order to maintain a count.
22 pet dogs total were registered this year. The subject of residents not registering their pets was also raised. Residents must register their pet dogs by August 15 or face a ₹2,000 fine and the dog's confiscation.
Earlier, Panchkula administration banned pitbull and Rottweiler in the city.
