An Initial Grant of ₹10.35 cr has been approved for the PU Northern Region Science and Technology Cluster. This cluster will be run by the Panjab University and IIT Ropar Section 8, they will together build a non-profit company to work in the industry and will operate from the Teg Bahadur Bhawan.
Work is intended to be done on agriculture and food processing, pharma, medical devices, health care, waste management, wealth from west. According to PU Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig, the cluster will work on academia, industry, government, NGOs and Research and Development will also be done for state government, municipalities and panchayats.
Other than the list of around 300 issues prepared by the Technology Enabling Centre, any other industry which establishes contact with the cluster, will be worked for.
The company will stay in Chandigarh for 3 years and will receive grants from the Principal Scientific Advisor Prof, Ajay Sood. It will be set up for Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh.
The Panjab University cluster is about to join it's counterparts in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi and Bhubaneswar.
