Surprise for UT: Chandigarh received land from Haryana, that is located in an eco-sensitive area.

Twelve acres of property in Saketri village were demarcated by representatives of the Chandigarh administration and the Haryana government last month in preparation for the UT's transfer of ownership.

It has been determined that the land offered by the Haryana government to the Chandigarh administration is located within the Sukhna wildlife sanctuary's eco-sensitive zone (ESZ), which Chandigarh is meant to be given in exchange for a portion of land for a separate assembly building.

The site was given to Chandigarh in return for 10 acres of "prime" land, which the UT will then give to Haryana so that it can erect its own assembly building. The site is located in an eco-sensitive area, according to Deputy Commissioner, Vinay Pratap Singh of Chandigarh. Regarding the ESZ problem, we will make a decision after consulting with the Haryana government.

On August 10, there will be a meeting related to this, he said. After learning from experts that the area was under the ESZ, the UT administration brought it up with Haryana officials. Until another piece of land is available, the process has been temporarily put on hold as they wait for the non-encumbrance certificate.

The Haryana government recently received a 10-acre parcel of property that the UT administration had just chosen to give it on the IT Park Road in Chandigarh, which leads to the train station. Many government representatives think, the area has considerable commercial potential and is regarded as prime.

Because of its proximity to the Sukhna wildlife sanctuary/catchment area, there had been rumours in the Chandigarh administration that the land the UT would receive from Haryana in exchange might prove to be contentious. This rumour was confirmed to the UT administration by experts.
