To counter the rapid increase in dog bites in Chandigarh, new sterilization norms to be adopted
Since the number of dog-bite cases is increasing in Chandigarh, the concerned authority has now decided to renew the rules for dog sterilization. Now, the residents of a particular area will be informed before conducting a dog-catching drive and the sterilization process will be done sector-wise. Along with that, an animal complaint cell has been developed at Animal Birth Control Centre (ABCC) to receive complaints about dog bites and rabid dogs. A helpline number will also be issued soon.
Dogs from one area will be brought to the center at a time and they will be marked with a particular number at their arrival with the help of collar having numbers to keep a record of the same area where they are to be released afterward. Moreover, a V-shaped marking will be put on the dog being sterilized to differentiate them from the others.
MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra has given assurance of these norms being adopted soon. She also said to bring these on agenda at the next house meeting for its approval. Since cases are on a rapid increase, hopefully, these new norms will be implemented soon and will bring the numbers down significantly.
