Gurmeet Ram Raheem who's presently in custody of Suraina jail, Rohtak for the rape charges of 2 disciples, has been granted a 3 week long furlough today, but the Sirsa based sect chief would not be allowed to mark his attendance to the place. Starting from 7th February to 20th he'd be allowed only to stay at his farmhouse and his company would be limited to just his family members for the time being.
As mentioned by a jail official, Mr. Raheem has been granted a number of paroles before but this would be the first time he's given a furlough. "every inmate has the right to ask for a furlough as is ensured by the law, and so is the case with Dera's chieftain" quoted Haryana jail minister, Ranjit Singh Chautala.
Gurmeet Ram Raheem has already completed 3 years of his prison time and the leave was requested by him a couple days ago. His release can be a great turning point for the coming Punjab assembly elections, scheduled to be voted for on 20th February 2022, as he is said to have a major influence on the Dera Sacha Sauda sect as well as many people around the area and it might shift the scales of a considerable amount of assembly seats.
Also, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar stated that Gurmeet Ram Rahim's vacation had nothing to do with the upcoming elections, emphasizing that the Dera chief was granted the leave in accordance with the process.
