Just ahead of the crucial Panjab University student body elections, police prevented a potential threat by detaining five outsiders, including Braham Dutt, an aide of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The group was found suspiciously parked near the law auditorium, raising serious concerns about campus security.
The accused have been identified as Braham Dutt, 28, of Industrial Area Phase 1, who has seven FIRs registered against him, Vishal, 28, of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, Vikash, 28, of Togan village, Mohali, Anand Yadav, 26, of Maloya, and Kshitij, 26, of Hallomajra.
Braham Dutt, infamous for his role in a 2020 high-profile shooting case in Chandigarh, is no stranger to crime, with seven FIRs to his name. The other four men, all with criminal records, were taken into preventive custody as authorities suspect possible interference in student politics.
With whispers of gang influence still echoing in campus corridors, university authorities are on high alert. Dean of Students Welfare Amit Chauhan assured action, including a possible outsider entry ban once the Model Code of Conduct kicks in. As student politics heats up, PU braces for a tense run-up to elections.
