A police officer in Bihar's Jehanabad district fired a gun at a 20-year-old college student who ignored a police checkpoint late on Tuesday evening.
First-year college student Sudhir Kumar Yadav, who was shot, later claimed that he completely escaped the team at the checkpoint because he lacked a driver's license.
The incident happened in the neighboring Jehanabad district's Ananthpur village, which is a few kilometers from Sudhir's home. A police checkpoint set up to inspect passing vehicles was where SHO Chandrahas Kumar and the ASI were stationed.
The inspector has been detained, and his service weapons are sent to the forensic laboratory for ballistic testing. Five police constables who were a part of the police team conducting vehicle checks, including SHO, Okri police station, have been suspended. Sudhir father Rabindra Yadav claimed that the policeman who shot his son was drunk.
“I sped away when the SHO at the check post tried to stop me. A police officer chased me for about 4 kilometers and then fired at me,” he said. The bullet hit him on his back, and he fell."
