The arrest of Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa has sparked protests as people demand his release. Singh, a former inter-university boxing player, has been actively fighting against drug abuse in the Mansa district. He claims to possess evidence, including videos, against drug dealers who are operating in close proximity to each other, every 100 meters in Mansa. Singh alleges that drug abuse has taken a toll on youth, with children as young as 12 falling victim to addiction. He asserts that around 75 out of every 100 youngsters in Mansa are struggling with substance abuse.
On July 15, Parvinder Singh was apprehended by the Mansa police from his residence in the presence of his parents. The arrest came after an incident on July 12, where Singh and his associates
allegedly assaulted a medical shop owner whom Singh suspected of being involved in drug dealing. The incident, captured in a viral video, showed the shop owner being subjected to humiliation as shoes were placed around his neck. Consequently, Parvinder Singh and six others were charged under various sections including 355, 148, 451, and 149 of the law.
Jhota has drawn criticism towards the Bhagwant Mann-led government, accusing it of neglecting the issue of drug abuse in Mansa. Protests have erupted in the district, with people gathering outside the DC office to demand his immediate release. The locals of Mansa are standing in solidarity with Singh's mission to create a drug-free district and safeguard their youth from the devastating consequences of drug addiction.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how authorities will respond to the public outcry and whether Jhota's efforts will bring about significant change in the fight against drug abuse in Mansa.
