The Chandigarh - Shimla highway has been closed once again due to heavy rainfall since last night.
National Highway 5 was shut down at 3 am due to a landslide. NHAI officials are currently working to clear the debris from the affected area and estimate that it might take an additional 3 to 4 hours to make the road usable again.
An official stated that "Around 2:35 am to 2:40 am, due to rain, Shimla National Highway 5, between Thambu Mod and Chakki Mod, has been closed due to landslides from the hill."
Earlier, on August 2, a significant portion of the highway near Chakki Mor had been washed away due to a massive landslide.
Although the road was reopened for light traffic on August 7, NHAI officials had indicated that complete repairs would likely take at least another week or more.
Furthermore, the death toll from rains, floods, and landslides in Himachal Pradesh has reached 223 which has become a growing concern.
