As per the National Centre of Seismology, an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck today at about 2:20 pm. The tremors were felt in Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi-NCR, parts of Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir as well as neighbouring country Pakistan.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake was of magnitude 6.4 on the Richter scale. It struck at a depth of 206.6 km, 44 km SSW of Jurm in Afghanistan.
Epicentre of the earthquake was reported to be Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region.
Reports of shaking of furniture also emerged. Fortunately, no loss of lives or property has been reported yet but a panic among people was certainly created.
