When Twitter announced the paid verification option, the internet was all up in a frenzy from all the memes and chaos that emerged from the Twitter paid verification that did absolutely entertain us.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook-parent Meta, announced the launch of Meta Verified, a service starting at $11.99 a month for authenticating accounts as done by Elon Musk earlier. Zuckerberg has painted this cash grab as an effort to increase authenticity and security across its platform .
Meta saw its ad revenue decline for the first time since the California-based group went public in 2012 and even though Meta had announced hitting 2 Billion users, the reality is that due to tough competition from TikTok and other social media platforms, Meta hasn't been able to bring in as much revenue as they used to.
The Twitter's pay badge was paused in November as people started
impersonating big brands and celebrities while answering to the concerns, the Meta has emphasized that Instagram and Facebook usernames will have to match a government supplied ID document and users will have to have a profile picture that includes their face.
As one of the Gen Z's the fact that Instagram is widely used by my counterparts as it provides a sense of anonymity which will not be possible through these new changes as Meta aims for the stars.
The real question that is still not answered is the fact that would this Paid Authentication turn into as much of a theatrical performance as the Twitter one?
