Bihar is experiencing a deadly heatwave, with 51 people dying over the past three days. Among the victims, 10 were polling officers, including a sub-inspector. Aurangabad reported the highest fatalities, with 15 deaths.
On Friday alone, 51 people succumbed to the heat, 12 of whom were polling staff. Specific regions recorded various death tolls: Patna (4), Nalanda (6), Kaimur (6), Rohtas (5), and Gaya (5). The Disaster Management Department confirmed 14 deaths on Friday, including 10 polling officers.
Polling officers who died included five from Bhojpur, three from Rohtas, and one each from Kaimur and Aurangabad. Additionally, two polling officers died in Patna, raising the total to 12. Earlier, eight deaths were reported on Wednesday and 59 on Thursday.
In another incident, 59 Year-old Sub-Inspector Dadan Prasad Singh from Ara succumbed to the intense heat in Munger.
