Israel Palestine Crisis : Hamas launches barrage of rockets against Israel, faces retaliation from Israel Defence Forces
In the morning hours of October 7, citizens in Southern and Central Israel faced terror in its purest form as Hamas militants launched a surprise rocket attack into Israeli territory, along with ground infiltration from multiple entry points.
Hamas Commander contributed to 'Operational Al-Aqsa Flood,' a surprise attack held during the Jewish holidays of Shabbat and Simchat Torah, as retaliation against Israel for its 'desecration' of the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Hamas also claimed to have taken 5 IDF soldiers as prisoners of war.
Meanwhile, Israel's Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, announced a 'special security situation,' with opposition leaders stating that Israel was in an emergency and coordinating a 'harsh military response' to the attack.
With the Israeli army prepared to hold Palestinian terrorists accountable for their actions, the IDF eventually declared a state of readiness for war by initiating retaliation in the Gaza Strip. However, attacks from Israeli forces remained minimal, even two hours after the rocket attacks had begun.
Amidst the attacks, multiple people were injured, and four people lost their lives, including the mayor of an Israeli town. Ofir Liebsten, the head of the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, was killed while defending a town during the terrorist attack.
Internationally, the Charge D’Affaires at the US embassy in Jerusalem condemned the Hamas attacks and extended her support to Israel.
Additionally, Israel's ambassador to India stated that while the situation in Israel is not simple, Israel would prevail regardless.
