The National Council of Educational Research and Training have updated class 12th syllabus in textbooks and have ended up removing the chapters of Mughal Empire from the textbooks.
“Themes in Indian History - Part 2” now does not include the chapters on “Kings and Chronicles; the Mughal Courts (C. 16th and 17th centuries)”. ‘American Hegemony in World Politics’ and ‘The Cold War Era’ are some more chapters that have been removed from class 12 civics books after the curriculum update. Apart from that, many revisions were made to the history and Hindi textbooks.
Social media surfaced with mixed responses to this decision. BJP Leader Kapil Mishra reacted to NCERT’s decision by retweeting “It is a great decision to remove false history of Mughals from NCERT. Thieves, pickpockets and two-penny road raiders were called the Mughal Sultanate and the emperor of India. Akbar, Babar, Shahjahan, Aurangzeb are not in the history books, they are in the dustbin.” Several other reactions bashed this decision as they believe that students should be aware and have complete information about all major historical events.
Many other changes have been made to NCERT syllabus textbooks. These changes will be implemented in the current 2023-2024 academic session.
