PU's School of Communication Studies celebrates National Press Day
To mark the National Press Day, Panjab University's prestigious School of Communication Studies, a pioneer in journalism education in India, organised an event on the theme titled 'Role of Media in Nation Building'.
For this event, Mr. Vijai Vardhan, Chief Information Commissioner, Haryana was invited as the chief guest.
Sharing his views on the theme for the event, Mr. Vardhan told the students of journalism and mass communication to do reporting with compassion and concern for the society. He shared various examples where the state interacts with the media. After the talk, an interactive session with the speaker and the students was held.
Prof. Y.P. Verma, Registrar, PU, and Dr. Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, HRDC, PU graced the event as guest of honour.
Dr. Bhavneet Bhatti, Chairperson, School of Communication Studies, informed that the department also held various sessions and competitions.
A poster making competition was also held on the same theme in which Rakshita Kaul, Ishika Luthra and Diksha Sethia were awarded first, second and third prize by various media personalities.
The National Press Day has been celebrated since 1997 to commemorate a free and responsible press.
