PARLIAMENT 20 SUMMIT CONCLUDES IN NEW DELHI

The G20 Parliamentary Speakers Summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday.

Held on October 13 and 14 at the India International Convention Centre, the ninth installment of the P20 Summit was hosted by the Parliament of India in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) with the theme being "Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future".

During the meeting, views and inputs on issues such as Sustainable Development Goals, green energy, women-led development and digital public infrastructure, were shared and discussed.

On the sidelines of the Summit, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in a bilateral meeting with European Union Vice-President Nicola Beer, underlined India's sovereignty stating that our internal issues should not be discussed by others. This comes after the European Parliament's recent move to bring a resolution on the Manipur issue. With this, India also registered it's protest on the same.

The P20 Summit came to a close with Speaker Birla delivering the valedictory address at the concluding session on Saturday. With this, he also handed over the Parliament 20 Presidency to the Parliament of Brazil.

The Parliament 20 Summit was first started during Canada's Presidency of the G20 in 2010 and is led by Speakers from Parliaments of G20 countries.
