October 21, every year is celebrated as Police Commemoration Day to pay homage to brave policemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to keep us safe.
Police Commemoration Day was started to commemorate the sacrifice of 10 policemen who attained martyrdom while fighting the Chinese Forces at Hot Springs in Ladakh, Indo-Tibetan Border in 1959. Upon sensing increased Chinese activity in the Hot Spring area, ITBP- 3 small parties consisting of CRPF and other forces were constituted. When one of the reconnaissance party didn't return, the team led by DSP Shri Karam Singh launched a search. But this party, heavily outnumbered by the Chinese Forces, was attacked and due to lack of cover, 7 out of 10 members died while the rest were taken as PoW.
This is the day to pay respect to every policeman who bear the heat, cold, rain, floods; face the constant threat to life; stay away from their families so that we can sleep safely.
PU Pulse pays a tribute to all those brave souls who sacrificed their life for humanity and thanks each policeman for their selfless service.
