Finally after three long years, ever since its inception in 2019, the underpass project between PGI and Panjab University gets a final nod from the Chandigarh Heritage Conservative Committee.
The project is estimated to be worth rupees 7 crores. It is likely to start in September and get ready within an year by 2024.
The subcommittee looking after The project led by Sumit Kaur, directed the Engineering department to make a few minor changes to the design such as increasing the distance between the ramp edge and curve, limiting shops to one side of the pass and installing public art on the other, reducing width of the passage and increasing entrance width along with full proof drainage system.
The new design will be made available by the architecture department soon and work shall begin.
The underpass is very important for the safety of pedestrians during wee hours of the day. It will also help in smooth running of the traffic. Interestingly, both the institutions had denied from giving their land for the underpass previously, but now changes have been made to the design of the available land to suit the interest of the parties concerned.
