Protesters pull down Indian flag at High Commission in London, Indian officials demand explanation from UK authorities
A group of protesters waving separatist Khalistani flags pulled down the tricolour flying at the Indian High Commission in London on Sunday, triggering outrage in India.
In response, a representative of the Indian High Commission grabbed the tricolour from a radical Sikh activist and tossed the Khalistani flag. The Indian High Commission in London has retaliated with a larger tricolour.
India has summoned the British deputy high commissioner and demanded an explanation for the "complete absence of security" that allowed the protesters to enter the High Commission premises. The Ministry of External Affairs has called the indifference of the UK government to the security of Indian diplomatic premises and personnel in the UK "unacceptable." The High Commissioner has condemned the acts as "totally unacceptable."
