
On February 20, the deans and secretaries of the eleven faculties were elected at Panjab University (PU) after a much dreaded gap of two years.
The first elections were conducted for faculty of dairying, animal husbandry and agriculture where Amit Joshi was elected as dean. Then Anju Suri was elected as the dean of arts faculty and Prof. Ashok Kumar and Prof. Yograj Angrish, who contested in elections and scored equal votes. They both are going to be dean for six months each.
Navdeep Goyal was elected as dean of science faculty, Keshav Malhotra was elected as the dean of the faculty of business management and commerce. Amrit Pal Toor was elected dean of engineering faculty.
In the faculty of education NR Sharma was elected as dean while Neeru Malik was elected in the faculty of design and fine arts. Poonam Piplani for dean of pharmaceutical sciences. Akhtar Mahmood as dean of medical sciences and Rajinder Kaur were elected as dean of law faculty.
Earlier PU elections were supposed to be conducted in December and Professors above 60 years were debarred from contesting in elections. But the Punjab and Haryana high court had given the university to add faculty members above the age of 60 in the voter list due to which elections were deferred.
