Panjab University Faculty Members Receive ₹61 Lakh Research Grant to Tackle Kala Azar

Panjab University has received a significant ₹61 lakh research grant from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). This money will support the efforts of two university faculty members, Dr. Deepak B Salunke and Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, who aim to develop new vaccines to combat leishmaniasis, also known as 'kala azar'. This disease is a serious health concern, especially in eastern India, and there is currently no vaccine available for it.

Over the next three years, Dr. Salunke and Prof. Kaur will work together to find innovative solutions to this problem, drawing on their expertise in chemistry and zoology.

33 grant represents a significant step in the fight against leishmaniasis and holds the promise of a healthier future for those affected by this disease. It is a testament to the dedication of Panjab University's researchers in addressing pressing health challenges.
