“Constitutional Clash: Punjab Congress Urges Governor to Revoke Land Allocation for Haryana Vidhan Sabha”
Senior Punjab Congress leaders recently met with Governor Banwarilal Purohit to discuss a pressing issue, which has caused controversy. State Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warding, Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa, and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu were among the notable individuals present at the meeting, which focused on the urgent demand to reverse the decision to allocate land in Chandigarh to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha.
The memorandum presented by the Congress raises crucial questions about the constitutional and moral aspects of the decision to grant 10 acres of land to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh. Governor Purohit has a crucial role in handling this delicate issue as the governor of Punjab.
The backdrop of the issue can be traced back to the Punjab Reorganization Act of 1966. Chandigarh, the capital city shared by two states, was built on the site of various villages of Punjab throughout this period. At that time, Haryana was designated as a temporary tenant of Chandigarh to prevent it from constructing a new capital city.
However, the recent decision to allocate Punjab's land to Haryana has sparked controversy due to its implications. It effectively converts Haryana from being a mere tenant to a permanent resident of Chandigarh, which has become a matter of controversy.
As we await the final decision, it is critical for all parties to engage in constructive discussion and promote understanding between Punjab and Haryana. We can only advance and respect the legacy of our shared history by working together in unison.
