In a meeting headed by Banwarilal Purohit, UT Administrator, a decision was taken to relax the ban on festive fireworks as the festival season is just around the corner.
People are more than exhilarated to celebrate Dussehra, Diwali and Gurpurab with the allowed Green Crackers . These fireworks are proven to be eco-friendly and do not contain any chemical that is harmful to the environment.
From the last 2 years, people were not allowed to burst firecrackers in the city but the allowing of use of Green Crackers came as a relief to many. However, the administration has set a fixed timing to indulge in the fireworks and every citizen is required to abide to them.
The administration has allowed the use of green crackers on Diwali from 8 pm - 10 pm and on Gurpurab from 4 am - 5 am and 9 pm - 10 pm. On the occasion of Dussehra, people are only allowed to use crackers during burning of effigies.
The UT administration led to this decision after thoroughly examining the Air Quality Index report received from the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee. It stated that the air quality of the city during the Diwali month in 2020 and 2021 was found to be satisfactory.
