Yesterday Police have arrested an assistant professor, Sachin Chahal at Panjab University who taught at the varsity's History Department in connection to the dowry death of his wife, a former national-level archery player, who was found dead at their house.
The matter at concern came under notice as the father of the deceased came forward with allegations of abuse by Sachin Chahal and torture for dowry demands like a flat in Chandigarh by his family.
The accused had called her father on February 17 that the wife was not opening the door since February 16 evening and was later found dead inside the room. In recent discoveries the police have arrested Sachin Chahal and produced him before a court that has sent him to two-day police custody.
Currently he's accused under Section 304-B (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code, which entails imprisonment from seven years to life.
