2024-25 Budget approved among other agendas discussed In PU Senate Meet
The Panjab University Senate meeting held on Saturday cleared a budget estimate of ₹789.6 crore for the 2024-25 session. Since the terms of current elected deans is coming to an end, the senate also approved agendas like conferring powers of the syndicate to the Vice-Chancellor and those of the elected deans to the Dean University Instruction (DUI), temporarily.
Out of the ₹789.6cr budget, ₹332.3cr will come through internal income and ₹457.3cr will be the annual maintenance grant, including ₹366.8cr from UGC and ₹90.5er from Punjab government.
Further, PU's multi-purpose auditorium in the South Campus became subject to questions with Senator Gurmeet Singh suggesting a definite timeline to be given and followed for the same. The said project was inaugurated in 2008 by the erstwhile PM Manmohan Singh, which after a whopping ₹80 crore spending, is yet to be completed.
Another agenda passed by the PU is to increase examination fee for the next session by 5%. The Senate also approved various cases of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), promotion and appointment of professors. The Draft Policy Against Sexual Harassment (Rules and Procedures), Panjab University, Chandigarh as per act, was approved in the long-pending meeting, among several other agendas.
