A misfortunate incident occurred around 3:30 pm this afternoon in sector 26 as a bus of Sacred Heart School caught fire while 32 students were still inside the bus.
As per the driver, Harmanjeet Singh the bus was on its way to drop students in Panchkula, as soon as the bus reached near Fauji Dhaba, the bus engine caught fire. The driver sensing the danger immediately stopped driving and parked the bus on road side and tried to evacuate the students out of the bus. Some of the local vendors also came to rescue the students and tried to facilitate the evacuation attempts.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. As per the speculations sparking in the engine must have been a major cause of the fire.
A quick response from the authorities concerned was observed including the Manimajra Fire Brigade Office, Manimajra station's SHO police party and the Principal of the Sacred Heart School as they arrived quickly on the site of the incident.
As per officer Gurmukh Singh it took around 15 minutes for the fire brigade to get control over the fire.
Such incidents clearly showcases the importance of safety parameters for the school vehicles and how they need to be regulated.
