Bengaluru college askes Sikh girl to remove turban amid hijab controversy

According to an interim ruling issued by the High Court on February 10th, an Amritdhari (baptised) Sikh girl who is also the president of the students' association, was politely asked to remove her turban for the first time on February 16 in Mount Carmel PU College, amid a crisis surrounding the wearing of hijab in classes, to which she politely refused.

The college authorities later spoke to her father saying they understand the importance of turban for Sikhs but are helpless due to the high court order.

The court order restrained students from "wearing saffron shawls, hijab and religious flags or the like in classrooms of colleges which have prescribed a uniform."

Some parents have also claimed that they have been

singled out after Muslim daughters were asked to take

off their hijab.

Parents of the concerned students have demanded that the order of the High Court must be implemented

equally to all students.
