Chandigarh Administrator, Banwari Lal Purohit, hoisted the tricolor on Independence Day in Chandigarh. During his speech, the Administrator declared a holiday for all educational institutions on August 16. This includes government and private schools.
Addressing the occasion, he commended Chandigarh's efforts in the field of environment. It is the first Union Territory to generate the highest solar energy among all centrally administered states. Chandigarh is also making strides towards electric vehicles with over 100 electric buses in operation.
He emphasized transforming Chandigarh into a lush, clean, and peaceful city. Sporting initiatives have been improved with increased prize money and provisions for athlete scholarships. The digitization of all government services is underway. He concluded his speech with lines from Jayshankar Prasad's poem.
Prior to the speech, various teams from Chandigarh Police saluted Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit. The event was attended by dignitaries including DC Vinay Pratap Singh, Mayor Anoop Gupta, and Commissioner Anandita Mitra.
Meanwhile, in Mohali, Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora unfurled the tricolor. He highlighted the shift from political leaders' portraits to those of martyrs Bhagat Singh and Baba Ambedkar in government offices, enhancing their dignity and reverence.
