The Chandigarh administration launched its sports policy on National Sports Day, August 29. The policy aims to encourage youth to pursue sports careers and excel internationally.
Medal winners at events like the Olympics will receive substantial cash prizes: ₹6 crore for gold, ₹4 crore for silver, and ₹2.5 crore for bronze.
These awards are higher than those of Punjab and Haryana. Apart from this Residents winning at Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and more will also get significant cash prizes.
Athletes will also get job reservation benefit under sports quota after it's implementation.
Inspired from Haryana Bhim Award, the policy also introduces the Administrator's Award, recognizing outstanding global achievements. It will comprise an elegant memento, certificate, ceremonial scarf and ₹5 lakh cash prize.
This initiative seeks to nurture talent, retain athletes, and build a strong sports culture.
