Authorities of Chandigarh halted the registration of non electric two wheelers from 10th of February. They have notified that non electric 2 wheelers bought on or after 10th February will not be registered by the office of Registering & Licensing Authority, UT, Chandigarh in the current financial year, that is, till March 31, 2023 in pursuance of Electric Vehicle Policy 2022.
Under this Electric Vehicle Policy city is aiming to reduce the number of 4 wheelers and 2 wheelers by 10% and 35% respectively. Administration aims towards discouraging the use of petrol vehicles by ceasing their registration and encouraging the use of electric vehicles by offering a waiver on electric and hybrid vehicles. This step is taken to promote eco - friendly and green transportation in the city. Electric mobility is being promoted to create a healthier environment.
However, due to this step of the authorities, 15 auto dealers in Chandigarh would get affected financially. Opposing the same they are going to meet the UT administrator and demand them to review their decision.
