Chandigarh Civic Authority will be in control of 89 parking lots from 1st February
During a General House meeting held on Monday, it was resolved that the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will manage all 89 parking lots on its own starting on February 1 at the current parking fee.
Two-wheelers must pay Rs 7 per hour to use the parking area, while four-wheelers have to pay Rs 14. Since 23rd January, the 57 paid parking lots in sectors 7, 8, 9, 17, 22 and Sukhna Lake had gone free of cost following which a lot of mismanagement and chaos occurred.
Various party councillors condemned this and expressed their disappointment. Gurbax Rawat, a council member for the Congress party lashed out at the officers for being unable to make use of the resources to make the city 'smart'. She questioned the need to bring up the issue when the contract was about to expire.
Anindita Mitra, the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, reacted by stating that notices had already been sent to the contractors and that they will use their assets to reclaim the money.
