Parking for two-wheelers and electric vehicles, including four-wheelers, will be made free in parking lots across the city, and there will be a hike in car parking fees (non-electric) starting from July 25.
Anup Gupta, the city's mayor, has proposed offering free parking to electric and two-wheeled vehicles as the municipal corporation is preparing to present the Smart Parking lots project for approval in the House. The Chandigarh MC currently charges seven rupees for two-wheelers and fourteen rupees for four-wheelers. If the proposal is passed, it will be implemented after July 25.
Currently, all parking lots have manual attendants who issue parking tickets and collect fees. The new parking contract includes a suggestion for a smart system.
Under the new method, when a vehicle approaches the entry point, boom barriers will open automatically. Upon departure, the price will be deducted from your FASTag based on the duration of your parking. A connection will be established between the camera feed and Sector 17's Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). The city parking lots have been divided into two zones. Zone 1 includes parking lots in the southern and eastern sectors and Zone 2 includes parking lots in the northern regions. The MC has been managing every parking lot since February.
The proposed changes are as follows:
For up to 4 hours: Rs. 20
For 4 to 8 hours: Rs. 25
For more than 8 hours: Rs. 10 per hour
Monthly pass: Rs. 500
However, for Elante and Fun Park, the charges are as follows:
For the first 4 hours: Rs. 90
For 4 to 8 hours: Rs. 150
For more than 8 hours: Rs. 20 per hour
