Chandigarh now free parking zones for various sectors for 3 months, digital system soon.
In 2020 the tender of Chandigarh paid parking was given by dividing the parking areas in zone 1 and zone 2.
Tender was alloted for a time period of three years. Contract of zone 2 of Pashchatya Entertainment Private Limited has been ended up today . Due to this parking in sectors 7, 8, 9, 17, 22 and near Sukhna Lake will be free until the next contract is given .
In accordance to this people have to pay no parking fee for about 3 months. At present the parking fees in the city was Rs. 14 for four wheeler and Rs. 7 for two wheeler.
The contract of zone 1 is also coming to an end. It will be ending on 31st of March but it is being said that the tender will be given to present contractor .
Efforts are also being made to develop smart parking areas . In this the boom barriers will be automatically uplifted on the entry of vehicle, parking charges will be deducted through FASTag, citizens who don't have FASTag can pay through Paytm, Google Pay and other scanners.
A phone application will also be provided which will tell us about the real time parking space available.
