A fire broke out in the basement of Vishav Electricals, an electrical parts manufacturing unit in Industrial Area Phase 2 on 24th July, 2023. According to reports the fire broke out at 4:30 PM of the evening, while fire officials reached out to the place, at 4:48.
Five women workers, who were involved in the packing of wires and related materials, were engulfed in the flames, and rescued. All the five victims were admitted GMCH, Sector 32. Out of the five, two were announced dead at arrival.
Fire officials allege the cause of fire to be Short Circuit. However, the surviving three women say that they heard a cylinder explosion while preparing tea. While fire extinguishers were present in the factory, the staff was neither provided appropriate training, nor the skills to use the fire extinguishers.
Chandigarh Police has nabbed factory owner Joginder Singh, along with two others. A case has been filed against the three under IPC Section 304 A, for causing death due to negligence.
