The regulation panel of Panjab University has implemented 4 year undergraduate courses in its affiliated colleges under National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Now the duration of these courses has been extended up to 4 years. The NEP will be implemented from the session 2024-25.
In a meeting held on April 16, regulations for the four-year (eight semesters) undergraduate programmes (honours) — BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, and BCA in the colleges affiliated to PU were approved.
From now the courses in colleges will be a mix of lecture, tutorial, and practical credits. Under the NEP, candidates enrolled in a UG course can study different subjects as major and minor subjects for their degree. They can choose to exit after the first year (or the first two semesters) and receive a UG certificate. They can exit after the second year and receive a UG diploma.
Moreover, the student may earn 20% of the credits in any category through online courses approved by the department/institution as per the existing UGC regulations.
