Getting any normal work done from the Chandigarh passport office, has turned into a nightmare for the applicants, as the office staff has decided to go on a strike against working Saturdays.
The Passport Office located in Chandigarh’s Industrial Area, Phase 2, became a scene of unprecedented ruckus and confusion on Saturday, as the office personnel went on an unexpected strike against the order to work on Saturdays.
According to sources, the Passport Office had issued a notice for the staff to work on Saturdays to tackle the ever increasing backlog of waiting lists and applications. However, disappointed with the order to work six days a week, the staff went on strike.
To tackle the unpleasant situation created, police had to arrive on the scene, it went on to assure the applicants to leave their application with their mobile number, so that they can be contacted later.
Satinder Singh, another applicant, said, “The last-minute strike left hundreds of applicants stranded in scorching heat. The office could have informed the applicants a day before the strike.”
Even though evrything is back to normal now, the ruckus created on Saturday raised many questions. Are such strikes justified? It seems to be a clear scene of mismanagement and miscommunication between the top officials and the office staff, why were consultations not made with the office staff ?, why did the office staff went on to a strike without giving any scope for discussion?, it can only be hoped that a solutions comes out to overcome this situation of deadlock.
