Himachal Pradesh is speaking out to assert its ownership of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) projects and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The state government has established a Cabinet subcommittee under the direction of Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar to solve this problem.
Examining Himachal Pradesh's claims based on the Punjab Reorganisation Act and other interstate agreements is the committee's main goal. In order to protect the state's interests, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has fought for its legal 7.19% share under the Act.
The committee will examine the documents and write a report that will be given to the Punjab and central governments. Himachal Pradesh has attempted to resolve the issue of its ownership in the BBMB projects for a long time, but has encountered difficulties in acquiring royalties. The Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government, however, rejected Himachal's claims, asserting that Chandigarh belonged solely to Punjab.
The cash-strapped Congress government is working to tap into every source of revenue. This development represents the state's determination to protect its share and advance fair resource allocation.
In addition to the Chandigarh dispute, a new conflict has developed over Haryana and Punjab's respective shares of Panjab University (PU) as 20% of PU has been claimed by Haryana. Himachal had earlier tried to claim PU but their appeal was rejected.
