"Panchkula Cut off from Chandigarh Amid Heavy Rain and Road Closure"

In the past 3-4 days, Panchkula has been cut off from Chandigarh due to heavy rainfall and road closures, leading to several challenging situations. Multiple incidents have unfolded, creating a sense of isolation and disruption within the region.

The Ghaggar River in Panchkula is experiencing increased water levels, with officials from the irrigation department reporting that it is flowing at 3.25 meters (10.66 feet) above the danger mark near Majri bridge. In some areas, it is flowing at an alarming 60.96 meters (200 feet) above the danger mark. This significant rise in water levels has raised concerns about potential flooding in low-lying areas. The swollen river has already caused damage to the road between Surajpur and Amravati.

On Monday night, a section of the bridge near the entrance of Amravati Enclave collapsed. This bridge was crucial in connecting Amravati Enclave to the main Shimla-Panchkula highway.

The road to Mansa Devi, located near the police commissioner's office, has been swept away, leading to a disruption in traffic. The water has entered various areas, including the Herbal Park in Sector 25 and 26, prompting the evacuation of the park's caretakers. Additionally, the roads in Sector 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28 of Panchkula have been flooded. In Rajjipur, located in Kalka, the River has damaged a road.

A cave-in on the bridge connecting Pinjore-Nalagarh has resulted in the closure of all roads leading from Pinjore, Panchkula, to Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. National Highway no. 44 has been temporarily closed due to heavy rainfall to prevent any potential accidents.

The Panchkula administration, in coordination with Chandigarh authorities, is actively engaged in assessing the damage, clearing debris, and restoring connectivity. Efforts are being made to expedite the reopening of crucial road links to ensure normalcy is restored as soon as possible.
