Lately, due to heavy rainfall, the condition of Punjab is not good and now neighbouring states have also turned their backs against them and refused to take any additional floodwater.
The past few decades have witnessed a three-way struggle for the share of river water from Punjab .While Haryana and Rajasthan have always demanded their fair share of river water, today Rajasthan backed off to extend it's much needed help to Punjab .
Rajasthan refused to take more rainwater coming from areas of Punjab. Rajasthan is only willing to accept 1500 cusecs of water through it's feeder against the capacity of 18,000 cusecs. The Punjab Government sent a letter to the Rajasthan Government expressing that the state is in a condition of floods .Today a bridge in Tarn Taran collapsed, making the situation more intense . The Rajasthan Government in return suggested that Punjab must lower water levels in dams in a properly planned manner .
In the present scenario , Punjab is left with no option but to let the waters of Sutlej and Beas flow into Pakistan through Hussainwala Barrage.
