Recognizing the gravity of this issue, Shri Anurag Verma, the Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, Government of Punjab, has urgently appealed to the Advisor of Civil Military Affairs to dispatch an army rescue team to mitigate potential flooding in the Tricity area.
In a formal request letter, he emphasizes, "Keeping in view the prevailing situation of incessant rainfall and grave situation of flooding, you are requested to provide suitable number of internal security columns of Army to mitigate the situation."
A state of red alert has been declared in the Union Territory, with Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar under close scrutiny. Multiple sectors in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula, as well as areas in Zirakpur, have succumbed to waterlogging. Adding to the concern, the floodgates of Sukhna Lake were forced open by the intense rainstorm that occurred today.
Anshika Jain, the Deputy Commissioner of Mohali, warned that the situation is rapidly deteriorating. In response, the district administration has been assigned the crucial task of taking charge and ensuring control over any potential adverse scenarios. She also announced a holiday in the educational institutions of Rupnagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Fatehgarh Sahib district including Mohali district of Punjab.
Above all, as PU Pulse is a media organisation, our utmost priority is your safety. We sincerely urge everyone to remain indoors to the greatest extent possible, prioritizing their well-being and security.
