Taking the step in giving age relaxation, an amendment has been made in the rules of the Lyngdoh Committee, where it has been decided to grant age-relaxation to the students of Masters of Law (LLM) for contesting in student council elections up to the age of 27 years.
Previously, there was no particular specification made in the rules by the Lyngdoh Committee for LLM students. Only the rules of post-graduate students were applicable to them and were having an age-limit between 24 to 25 years.
On the one hand, this move is going to benefit some student leaders as they claimed that universities consider law as a graduation course which was totally wrong. On the other hand, many parties criticized this especially the research scholars and Phd students' who also demanded about the same and they claimed that University is doing biased things as age relaxation this time should be given to everyone as there were no elections from the past 2 years.
Earlier, Pulse had also written about the issue of age-limit for contesting in student council elections in its columns.
