With the start of the new financial year, various changes will be seen in Chandigarh from 1st April i.e. today. Residents will be now paying more for basic facilities such as garbage collection and water. Apart from that there is an expected hike in electricity bills as well. However, there is a reduction in cow cess on liquor, and sewerage cess is also being reduced.
From today citizens will have to pay more for the water supply. A hike of 5% is expected at the current rates. The water tariff at the present is ranging from Rs 3 per Kilo liter to Rs 20 per kilo liter. On a slab of 0 to 15 Kiloliters, one is charged Rs 3 per KL, on a slab of 16 to 30 liters, one is charged Rs 6 per KL, charges of Rs 10 per KL on a slab from 31 KL to 60 KL and Rs 20 per KL on a slab above 60 kl.
Liquor consumers will have to pay less cow cess from today as the cess is reduced as follows- Rs. 5/- per bottle of Country Liquor has been reduced to Rs 1/- of 750 ml. Similarly, now Rs. 10/- per bottle of Whisky has been reduced to Rs. 2/- per bottle of 750 ml/ 700 ml and Rs. 5/- per bottle of Beer has been reduced to Rs 1/- per bottle of 650 ml. Along with that, the Minimal Retail Sale Price of all beer brands is increased by Rs.10 by the administration.
Parking rates in the city will remain as it is. There are 89 parking lots in the city which manage the parking of vehicles in various areas. The civic body took over the management from the private contractors and now there will be no hike seen in rates as of now.
Registrations of the fuel base two-wheelers will restart from today. Chandigarh administration ceased the registration of fuel-based two-wheelers with immediate effect on February 10th as the target for the previous year was completed, It was ordered to register electric vehicles only, But now registrations for two-wheelers will kickstart from today with the new target.
There is a 5% rise in the prices of garbage collection. With the start of this month, a 5% rise in the charges will be seen and residents will be charged accordingly.
Vehicles older than 15 years will be scrapped- People will no longer see vehicles running on roads that are older than 15 years. As the administration has decided to scrap those vehicles. Around 98 vehicles will be deregistered and scrapped which include polluting cars alongside 9 CTU buses.
These are the changes that will come into action from today itself. Let us see how these changes are going to impact the citizens in the long run and will these rules make the functioning of the city better?
