To enhance accessibility and reduce efforts in manual location of documents, the UT Urban Planning Department of Chandigarh has decided to computerize its land records and maps. The Society for Promotion of Information Technology in Chandigarh (SPIC) has started inviting bids to help in digitisation of land records and execution of Document Management System for their easy access.
With many records dating back to the 1950s, their physical preservation leads to difficulties, so the UT administration has come up with this idea. Under the aegis of the project, a system to store scanned documents will be created that displays the scanned data when and where required.
The project will entail complete scanning and indexing of all property files by implementing DMS into the routine and providing data backup facility through CD. This will ease the efforts being utilized in the physical location of certain documents making the work process efficient.
