Lakhwinder Singh Kang, president of Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers' Organization (PFUCTO), wrote a memorandum to remind the CM of Punjab, Bhagwant Maan, regarding the promise he had made before elections to make the due 7th Pay Scale effective as soon as possible after the elections.
In another reminder addressed to the CM, it was requested that according to UGC 7th Pay Commission, the salaries of teachers in Punjab Universities and Colleges were to be raised. However, Punjab is the only one right now who hasn't made this effective and it has been 6 years already that teachers are providing for the education system on the basis of the previous pay scale.
The previous governments hadn't worked on the issue so the teachers had played an important role in over turning the government. However, due to ignorance on the part of the current government for the issue in the Assembly sessions, the teachers are not accepting the behavior and are upset.
President of PFUCTO urged Mr. Maan to consider their problem and take action as soon as possible to avoid the distraught teachers from declaring a stand against the government and go for strikes.
Earlier, a mass level protest, regarding the implementation of 7th pay scale was done by Punjab teachers before Assembly elections. The Government of Himachal implemented this which was highly appreciated by everyone but some criticism was seen considering it as a political stunt before elections.
