With the PUCSC Elections coming closer, a new turn has taken place with the students demanding increase in age limit for the candidates. PU Pulse also raised this issue time to time.
The current age limit for post graduation students for the contesting candidates in the elections is 25 years right now. The University had been ignoring the demands of the protesting students for long and now the matter has reached the high court.
In the petition filed, arguments put forward by students is, that due to no elections in the last 2 years, some of them did not get chance to run for president, secretary and representative positions and hence could not develop leadership qualities.
They also gave the example of Ankit Bisht vs the Govt of Uttarakhand case in which the age limit for contestants in DAV-PG college was increased by the order of Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra. Pulse was the first also posted about this case.
The matter is most likely to be heard next week in Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Around 2-3 party people already submitted the memorandum regarding the same to PU administration and the matter has also reached the senate. Recently, Student Democratic Front Party of Khalsa College Sector 26 under their President, Prince Daak also submitted the memorandum for age relaxation.
