PU Signboard Row Escalates | PwD Students Demand Action Over Damaged Braille Signages
The ongoing signboard controversy at Panjab University has taken a new turn after PwD students and members of the Equal Opportunity Cell submitted formal representations demanding strict action over the alleged defacement of Braille-enabled accessibility signages across the campus.
The students clarified that they are not opposing Punjabi language inclusion, but raised concerns that the damaged signboards were specially designed for persons with disabilities under the RPWD Act, 2016 and Government of India accessibility guidelines.
According to the representations, the signages included: 🔹 Braille for visually impaired students
🔹 Large fonts for low vision students
🔹 Colour contrast & bilingual formatting for multiple disability categories
Students alleged that damaging such infrastructure directly impacts accessibility rights and independent navigation on campus.
📍 Location: Panjab University, Chandigarh
